10/12/2024 8:00:00 AMResearchers from Bushehr University of Medical Sciences have successfully developed a novel, eco-friendly method of synthesizing MnO2 nanoparticles using Arabic gum, resulting in a significant reduction in influenza virus infectivity and cellular protection in vitro. The study aimed to investigate the antiviral effects of MnO2 nanoparticles synthesized using Arabic gum against the influenza virus. The team synthesized MnO2 nanoparticles using a green chemistry approach involving Arabic gum as a natural polymer and characterized using SEM and TEM. In vitro assays demonstrated a 3.5 log HA decrement and 69.7% cellular protection in the simultaneous combination treatment with green-synthesized MnO2 nanoparticles, outperforming the virus control group. Molecular docking studies revealed potential interactions between the synthesized MnO2 nanoparticles, beta-D-galactopyranuronic acid, and the influenza virus hemagglutinin protein. The study's findings suggest that MnO2 nanoparticles synthesized using Arabic gum could be a promising natural and effective treatment for inhibiting respiratory infections caused by the influenza virus. Further research is needed to explore the potential clinical applications of this eco-friendly approach in combating viral diseases. Click to review the article
