Pomegranates: A Promising Aid in the Fight Against Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

As the search for effective treatments for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) continues, Dr. Hadi Emamat and a group of researchers' findings point to pomegranates as a promising natural aid.

NAFLD is a common ailment that can lead to liver failure and even death if left untreated. Since insulin resistance and oxidative stress are the primary contributing factors to this disease, and previous studies have shown that antioxidant-rich food substances may help reduce these factors.
"Based on this study, global research has been carried out on various parts of the pomegranate, including its peel, flower, seed, and edible parts," said Dr. Hadi Emamat, a faculty member at BPUMS.
"Overall, the results indicate that different parts of the pomegranate have the potential to improve NAFLD by ameliorating factors such as insulin resistance, oxidative stress, inflammation, and hepatic fat accumulation," added Dr. Emamat.
"According to research findings, consuming different parts of the pomegranate may assist in treating NAFLD as an adjunctive therapy," said Dr. Emamat.
Dr. Emamat further noted that "given that most of the studies conducted in this field have been on animal samples, future human studies are required to confirm these effects."
